Completed - Yaks Spy in the sky GB, Yak 25 rv 'Mandrake'

Hi all , heres my completed entry for this 'Spy in the sky' GB . Its the Amodel kit of the Yak 25 rv 'Mandrake' in 1/72 scale , not exactly a shake n bake like all Amodel offerings but easy enough with a bit of patience (and a LOT of filler) build thread can be found here http://www.scale-models.co.uk/topic/...ke-172-amodel/   as usual comments criticisms welcome cheers tony

Absolutely beautiful Tony. A clean and accurate build with a stunning paint finish.

The result gives no clue as to the kit's less-than-straightforward construction and the efforts you've put in.

I've not seen too many of these kits complete but I'd wager this is one of the finest examples out there.

          Very cool

Looks great Tony - I love the head-on shot. The natural metal finish is stunning!

Do you suspect that the U-2 had a good deal of inspiration for the Mandrake....

I was thinking something similar.  But anyway, lovely job Tony. I imagine lining the landing gear up might have been just a bit tricky ?

Cheers ian , although the mandrake first flew four years after the u2 , i think the similarity was just a case of function dictating form , the long span high aspect ratio wings being a necessary feature for a high flying / long endurance aircraft, remember the ant 25! Cheers tony

Cheers colin , its a bit like doing a harrier but the long wings make it a bit more difficult especially as the outriggers slant backwards.cheers tony
