I don't usually build aircraft, but...

...my pal is a spitfire maniac, and asked me to build this for him! New tool Airfix, went together pretty well, with no real dramas, other than the fuselage's reluctance to join together. Hand brushed with Tamiya paints then W&N matt varnish. Full of flaws, I'm sure you'll spot, but looks nice on the mantelpiece!

Same story as the E E Lighning - if I had another to build now, I'd nail it

I reckon that looks very nice in the pictures too. Maybe you should build more aircraft

    Cheers

Thanks Steve, I have to confess that I've been eyeing up a few that I build as a lad, but feel I'm restricted to 1/48 due to tiny little parts! Got my eyes on the new tool Hurricane, and hoping that they make a Defiant in 1/48 soon. My mate asked for this "box-fresh" i.e. No weathering, which felt a bit odd to me (being used to splashing mud everywhere), my next one will be mucky!

Thanks Barry, I was right out of my comfort zone here - especially as he wanted it clean. Mud and rust can cover up a multitude of sins...

What Steve says, John; that's a really nice clean build and I'm sure your friend will be delighted with it. He should be

Airfix recently released a 1/48 Defiant (although I hope you have better luck finding one over there than I have this side of the Atlantic). By all accounts it's a superb kit.

I've been poking around Airfix's site, and it's still got a "pre-order" status. I will wait patiently,me specially as I noticed one of the markings was based in Martlesham, a few miles from my house!

That's strange, it's definitely been released already. Perhaps they sold out and are waiting for a re-stock?

Looks good. Nice build. I recently did a Defiant 1:48. Went together quite well. Will try and put some pics of it up soon.

Really nice, John - great neat build. It's unusual to see an unweathered plane these days, but it's your mate's mantelpiece!
