1/48 Hasegawa Mitsubishi Zero

Hi guys and gals 


well I have been very busy at work lately and not much time to get to the table but I managed to get this one finished after about 2 months. I studied a lot of ideas on how to represent a very worn aircraft as found on Saipan in 1944/45 where this aircraft was found.


During the latter part of the war in the Pacific many Japanese Aircraft were not repaired as little time and supplies made it hard if not impossible to keep the Aicraft in top condition. 


Vallejo, Tamiya and REvell paints used

Top work, love the wear, as is the norm with Japanese war planes. Great build.

Great job there Robert. Good weathering on the wings especially. Also liked your BF 109G and 110 great job on those mate.

Thanks for the positive input guys, I tried the first part on weathering the wings with hairspray tech with a Alluminium under spray but didn't go well and I lost 3 of the decals as they perished so I had to resort to masks which I was pleased about. The decals on the tail were from the original kit.


the weathering was from ref pics of Mitsubishi Zeros etc found abandoned on islands around Japan at wars end. Ref also showed that the paintwork was rather heavy in the weathering.


the kit went together with no issues except that Hasegawa put the 20mm cannon an the wings at sprue and they came off at sanding stage ( oops ) but a bit of UHU fixed them back in position later.


The Luftwaffe builds are not far from completation although I'm still not happy with the mottling 100% just yet.
