Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk2a

At last I've completed a kit!! Its been a while what with continuing heart problems which I'm glad to say are all sorted now. No more interventions and following the MRI scan, back at the beginning of February, my heart is good to go.
I've been beavering away at this one for quite a while, no build thread, this ones been built many times, so just a few cockpit details. This one's straight out of the box with some home made Sutton harnesses. Build went without any real problems. Closing the fuselage was bit of a struggle the cockpit tub was a tight fit and needed some sanding. All in all a nice well detailed kit. I see they have just brought out a Mk.IX so I may have a go at that one. Anyway this is not one of my best builds but it's a start back into the modelling, all comments welcome.

I'm so glad you're well and the heart problem has been resolved. It sounded so very serious and it's great to have you back.

The Spitfire is stunning and believe me I know this particular plastic intimately (having completed no less than 7 kits of this myself!).

The cockpit detail, harness etc all look just right. The paint scheme itself is flawless (as usual) and it all makes up for a great looking Spit. Nice to see an actual mk.2 for a change instead of another mk.1 backdated kit.

Kit-wise I think the Revell my.2 is a great kit for the money and filled a really noticeable hole in the 1/32 market. I think as an (almost) OOB build you've completely smashed it. It's a lovely looking model.

Question: did you find that fitting the canopy was a struggle? Every build I've done of this kit has required quite a bit of pressure applied to the canopy to get it to sit on the rails. I don't think it's anything to do with how I built them I genuinely think the fuselage is too wide for it.

Paul no real problem with the canopy. The rear section is a little narrow but if you push it down it then doesn't line up withe spine as it is then too low. So I left it and it's not really noticeable. What happened to the 7 you built? did you ever post them on the forum?

I built 3 wheels up and 4 parked. I sold the 2 with wheels retracting to a collector together with 2 parked on airfield grass bases.
I still have the motorised wheels up version together with 2 more on display bases. The ones I have are: Geoffrey Wellum's aircraft (92 sqd) and another 610 squadron.

It was quite a while ago now I built 5 together (which I featured on the forum) and then another 2 later on (after I'd sold my display models).

Hope you like it. I couldn't find my original build thread, it was before any aftermarket stuff became available so I was spending time modelling fabric ailerons etc.
I find the rear glass is too narrow to match the lines of the fuselage (although I have fixed that in later builds with some sanding and pressure on the fuselage sides). I still believe the fuselage is slightly too wide though for both the rear glass and the canopy.

Anyhoo, you've done a great job with yours and it's great to have you back
