    Special Hobby 1/48 Fairey Barracuda

I started this one about 18 months ago. Finally got it finished tonight. Its a typical limited run kit. Not easy to put together. For example, the fuselage bulkheads were all oversize and needed trimming So the fuselage halves would come together. But im happy with the finished model. Finished as an aircraft of 829 sqdn operating from HMS Victorious and carrying out strikes on the Tirpitz in 1944. The kit is very basic and disappointingly does not include any armament. For attacks on the Tirpitz they typically carried a 1,600lb armour piercing bomb under the fuselage. Its a shame Special Hobby didnt include one in the kit.

Great work on what sounds like a difficult kit to build. To be honest I've never seen this type of aircraft before.

Beautiful build dave , i know the special hobby kits can be a bit of a slog but youve nailed this one. Its a great aircraft too , one of those ugly but beautiful jobs , bit like the gannet and firefly. Top class paint job and canopy masking too , i really like this one, cheers tony

I used a Montex vinyl canopy masking set. Didnt like it much when i was applying it. But its worked better than my usual Eduard masking sets. So im a convert i think.

Super build Dave. I like the subtle effects in the paint finish, it has worked well.
