Hi mates!!
Here comes another US-Bird in foreign uniform: P-40M "Warhawk" in 1/48 scale. The kit comes from Hasegawa and it's really great. Good fit, nice details.......you can safely build it out of box. That's how I did it. Only etched seatbelts and stretchable yarn as antenna wire were used.
This aircraft, former in soviet service, was captured by finnish troops and came in service in the "HLeLv 32" but was not used operationally.
My Model shows the finnish "KH-51" in August 1944.
The Finnish swastika ("Hakaristi") has a different meaning than the Nazi one. Even though Finland fought on the side of Nazi Germany until 1944.
In 1918, the Swedish "Baron Eric von Rosen" handed over a "Thulin D" to the Finnish "White Army".
The aircraft was marked with the baron's personal good luck symbol, a blue swastika.
In honor to von Rosen, this symbol was adopted as a national insignia for the new Finnish Air Force.
Cheers
Stefan
