Sure is,today I was flying in connection with the study of birds in connection with model flying and how it affects nesting if any ? the survey is being paid for by the local council,we fly on the oldest model flying site in the UK model flyers have been flying here for 94 years and very proud to be the custodians of Saint Marys land model aerodrome, the purpose is to reclaim our original flying hours that were lost due to noisy IC engines back in the sixties and to remove the present restrictions as we only fly clean, quiet user friendly electric these days.Comment

John over the years there have been many bird/model aeroplane/full sized aircraft studies, however non of them have proved anything conclusive,a total waste of £3,000 plus £2,800 last year on an abortive study that was ill completed, the sad fact is birds decline is due to many factors ie land for building houses, birds shot for food in Malta,we have been flying happily for years with birds they get used to their environment, predators yes and irresponsible dog walkers allowing animals to menace the nesting birds where there are clear signs posted,it is all a storm in a tea cup.Comment

Barry.
Indeed.
Habitat lose due to house building is by far the most common cause of declining bird species, its plain to see that if you alter the environment the birds will move , or die out. Can't imagine that quiet planes flying would cause serious decline in bird populations, even if the odd bird thought a model was a raptor.
Just wait for that old " lesson will be learnt " to be trotted out.Comment
