2nd build back - ( old ) 1/72 Airfix Spitfire ( sorry !)

Hi all, got a bit bogged down doing the Swordfish, so decided to take a break and bash this out. It's totally OOB, including the good old Airfix pilot! ( which actually came out rather well and I'm a bit dissapointed you can't see more of him !!) The only addition were the Techmod decals which came with stencils. Having just read a certain thread, I'm going to say it was brush painted with Tamiya acrylics and run off to hide......

Hey Neil,This is a really nice Spit.

And don't hide cos you used Tamiya paints, just shows what can be done.

Did you thin and retard them or work with them neat.

I used them thinned with a bit of tap water, which is probably why mine gave such a poor result.

Tamiya paints or not it's a good build and one you should be pleased with.

Tony, the paint was thinned with regular tap water, quite heavily and it was drying quite quickly, but as the "canvas" was quite small it wasn't too much of a problem. I did start off using it "neat", but soon found that that wasn't really going to work for me. The Sky & Brown I did in 3 coats, the Green in 2. I'm not sure I'd like to do anything much bigger unless I could do it in stages.

The only other thing I gave it was a bit of a dark wash, which gave it a "dirty" look

And thank you, Ian !! I am quite pleased with the finish - in fact if I'd have know it was going to turn out as good as it did, I would have made some effort with the detailing, but then at my pace, we'd be writing this around June 2012 !!!

At least this way my Wildcat has got some company on the shelf at last.......

It's a Spitfire and so has to be great. I can't get enough of them, and this reminds me I haven't done a Spit' in ages. Nice job.
