Excellent work there Steve. I take it with these two extra large kits to find shelf space for, you definitely won't have room for my launch tower?

Looking a bit iffy on the launch tower Dave! I'm eyeing up a 1/32 P-51, which is another big'un.
I've also got a lock down present from daughter number one's little fella, though I don't think he picked and paid for it unless three year olds are better paid today than in my time :flushed:
I might have to build it first as his grasp of time is not great. Anything in the future, from going to nursery to Christmas is 'next week', which is when he will be expecting the completed model to feature in a Skype call (with a repaired dinosaur!)Comment

These look superb Steve and right up to your usual standard.
I look forward to seeing your P51 but which 1/32 kit?
Among new tools there are the Revell, Tamiya and Zoukei Mura.
The Tamiya and ZM are great kits though the Tamiya has the edge with sharper, cleaner moulds and best fit.
The Revell is a lot cheaper but I would not expect great things from it, you get what you pay for after all. My recommendation would be the Tamiya of course who have three toolings, a D (or MkIV), a K (or MkIVa) and a newer Korean War F51 option. You cannot do better than the Tamiya.Comment

Hi Barry
It's a Tamiya kit, which must be a few years old. It was discovered lurking in the top of one of the Fuhrerin's wardrobes and I had forgotten I had it! It wouldn't surprise me if it dates to when Tamiya released the kit which must have been the best part of ten years ago.
I'm going to do a camouflaged version, and I might be asking some paint advice as the best US equivalents for our Day Fighter Scheme seem to be in the MRP colour range. They seem to work beautifully for you, so I'm considering giving them a go, at least for the three camouflage colours.Comment

Go for it Steve, you certainly won't regret using MRP.
Yes MRP do have some US equivalents for RAF Camo
Dark Green FS34096 is MRP370 (or you could use FS34079 MRP101)
Ocean Grey FS36173 is MRP365 (or you could use FS36176 MRP093)
Medium Sea Grey FS36270 is MRP039 (or you could use FS36440 MRP098)
This was via a cross reference between the MRP website, their designations and Urbans Reference charts.Comment

Barry, I found the US equivalents of the British colours as we received the aircraft 'pre-painted' from the US.
MRP do either the direct equivalent of the Army-Navy Aeronautical (ANA) standard or the nearest FS number for the other one, which will be close enough for a model.
Our Ocean Grey becomes 'Sea Grey' (ANA603), which is MRP-040. Medium Sea Grey becomes 'Light Grey' (ANA602), which is MRP-245 and is a noticeably different colour, even in B+W pictures. Finally, the Dark Green becomes 'Olive Drab' (ANA613), which is MRP-138.
I've just noticed a BoB group build, so I may postpone the P-51 slightly and see if I can find something to knock up for that! Given that I have no work, nor any prospect of any in the next few months, I don't think time will be the issue. Also, HMR&C just dropped a decent sum in my bank account, which makes a change, usually it's the other way round, so I might splash out on some extras for the 'Mustang'.Comment

Thats interesting Steve. Thinking back when I did my MkIV Mustang of 112 Squadron when they were in Italy my research then led me to Olive Drab for Dark Green and Neutral Grey for the underside (I dont remeber the other) but that was for the 'firewall' camo scheme which makes an interesting contrast to the standard RAF scheme.Comment

I usually see ANA 602 described as 'light gray' [sic] and I think it was the same colour used by the USN. I've noticed that it was a lighter shade than our Medium Sea Grey. I honestly can't tell the difference between olive drab (ANA613) and Dark Green, or sea grey and Ocean Grey in black and white images, though I know some of those who do careful analyses of the images reckon that they can.
They will definitely be close enough for me!Comment

Don't forget to declare that on you'r next tax return!!!!
Interesting discussion re the paints - I do a similar thing when building - look for the nearest
shade/equivalent that I have rather than order the exact color.
As you say Steve - close enough for me.
Paul.

I got a unsolicited phone call from my accountant telling me exactly that, she'll probably charge me for it. :flushed:
The ungrateful could say that HMR&C is giving with one hand and taking with the other, but it is obviously easier for both sides to calculate the sum from profit and then to add it to income for the tax year. It seems fair enough to me, and given the current situation it is most welcome. For once I will actually profit from doing my books properly!
Cheers
