    1/48 Tamiya Brewster Buffalo

This one has just come off the production line. It was a very enjoyable build. I made my usual couple of mistakes en route. I should have painted the sky rear fuselage stripe instead of using the decal, and I should have used some better quality decals. Tamiya kits are excellent but their decals are just too thick for mine.

Unfortunately, the Tamiya kit does not come with a split canopy. I entertained an aftermarket one but I'm hopeless at separating the parts cleanly so I stuck with the kit's one piece. The Buffalo canopy is large and quite a bit of detail can be seen through it, but it still hides the very good detail provided as standard in the kit. I used a PMask canopy mask which resulted in a very satisfactory finish.

I deliberately avoided any weathering. Weathering is most appropriate for dioramas but for glass cabinet display I prefer museum finished specimens. Thanks for looking ...

        That is superb Murfie.
One of the neatest painting of an aircraft I've seen on here.

The canopy and blister paintings are superb.
        Excellent work.

Ta for the very kind comments, 570, though you might be stretching it a tad too far as there are some very classy models built by members that leave me in awe.

Thanks, Lee. Your comments are much appreciated. I didn't know much about the Buffalo before I started but I did a heap of reading about it as I did the build. I've got another in 1/72 (Special Hobby) that I'll have a go at soon after the ones I've got in progress on the workbench are finished.

                Cheers,

                Murfie

Beautifully finished murfie , the decals look fine to me , I’d rather have decals that were too thick than ones that disintegrate during application ! ( and ive had plenty of those !) The masks worked perfectly , invaluable on a greenhouse canopy like this , cheers tony

Lovely buffalo Murfie. Canopy is superb, and the rest of the finish is top notch as well.

Thanks very much, Tim. Coming from you I take it as high praise. I used to handpaint my canopies but since the stroke I've had to use airbrush and masks, but the result has more than pleased me.

Very true, Tony. You can at least move them around without fear of destruction like some other brands. They take a bit of work to get them into recessed panel lines, however. Thanks for the compliment.

You GAVE one away? Well, at the moment you can get a replacement pretty cheap (around £15). I can't really explain why, but I really enjoyed building this plane. I've started another in 1/72 but building has stalled while I finish off some others in progress.

                              Cheers
