Its got to be a natural metal one chris , i think im going to go for the sidewinders on the wingtips though as i want it to be one of the early versions ( before they realised the range was terrible and fitted the wingtip tanks as standard!). I reckon without the tanks it emphasises the fact it was virtually an engine with a man on top ! :smiling5: Click image for larger version

              Lovely job, Tony.
I'm not into 'modern' jets, but I know a neat and tidy model when I see one. How you cope with all those diddy decals I can only imagine. - Even in 1/48. I'd loose the will to live after the first half a dozen!

There was a F -103 Dave but it never got past the mock up stage . It was a proposal for a mach 3 jet/ ramjet interceptor , designed to combat Russian supersonic bombers . Problems with the engines and the Russian switch to ICBMs as a means of delivering nukes killed off the project In the late fifties . The other two missing numbers in the sequence ( f-107 , f-108 ) were also proposals / prototypes . The F 107 Ultra Sabre reaching flight testing and giving very promising results but not pursued , and the f108 Rapier went the same way as the f103 - cancelled due to the proposed mission ( intercepting supersonic bombers) becoming obsolete . Cheers tony

A very nice, colourful model. You have certainly mastered those decals.
