A (very brief) build log here academy-1-72-curtiss-p-40e-warhawk.38343 .
OOB build using Academy 1/72 Curtiss P-40E Warhawk Kit 12468. The only non-OOB addition were straps made from Tamiya tape and aerial wire from elastic thread. Finished as “49”, a P-40E Warhawk of the 11th FS, 343rd FG, 11th AF, USAAF based in the Aleutian Islands from 1942. These early P-40E Warhawks in Aleutian service featured recessed wing guns and had no aerial mast fitted.
A truly enjoyable build from a well-fitting and easy kit. The decals were no problem, with the exception of the ill-fitting tiger motif on the nose. I touched up the poor joins under the chin with acrylic paints. The aircraft was suitably dirtied to represent the harsher Alaskan environment using acrylic paints for staining and chipping, acrylic washes, and Ammo Mig powder for the tyres.
