Okay, is it bad that I can tell the difference between a MC202, a MC205, a 205N, a G.55 and a Re2005 just by looking at them, or have I been collecting RA stuff for too long?
Of course, in 1/48 the assymetric wingspan of the Macchis should be more noticeable. Apparently, according to some Italian sources, no 202 kit has quite got the shape right in 1/72. But then, they've got access to the real thing. Still, the same 'innacuracy' can be levelled at Hurricane kits
      Allegedly
Still, if anyone's building and wants non-intraweb reference, I'm your man

Nice result on the Lightning Chris and a very intriguing back story as well. Looking forward to what you have next in line for a build. :thumb2:

Only if it’s keeping you awake at night I can do similar with stuff like M60s (the tanks, and maybe the machine guns as well ) and seem to be getting close with Shermans, though must admit I’m in some ways glad I haven’t reached the level some people have this skill at …

Not at all chris , just a healthy interest . In 1/72 though the 8” difference in wing lengths is only going to be about 2 mm or so , not massively noticeable ( saying that , one review of the italeri mc205 says they got it right ? I’ll have to get mine out of the box and measure it ! ) I reckon we might have to put forward the idea of a GB sometime - Italian air force ( RA , ACI and ANR ) including any foreign aircraft in Italian markings ( Stuka , bf109 etc.) . Might have to be a while yet though , theres quite a few going on this year already . Cheers tony

An RA GB? Well, we've just missed the hundreth anniversary of the Regia Aeronautica founding, two weeks ago, and the 80th anniversary of the Armistice is September, but that's the soviet GB isn't it?
Maybe we'll pencil it for 101 years next March

My personal criteria for RA kit collecting (and a few builds!) is any Italian aircraft that flew in squadron service (so I've stretched to a S.79 Corsa) but excludes prototypes. So, the one-off Caproni-Vizzola F6 scrapes in because it flew in a Rome defence Autonomo unit, but the Caproni-Campini C.1 'jet' doesn't as it was a test bed that never went further (though it is sitting in Vigna di Valle still). Foreign types in squadron service does cover a fair few. I don't go for ANR or ACI marking though, but RA includes the pre cross tricolor tails.
War prizes I added to my collection just because, but only those with the tail cross

Still, can't just use my personal collection criteria to a GB. Ask me in eight months!
