    DaveCov's Airfix 1/144 Boeing 314 Clipper (04172)

My build of the Airfix 1/144 Boeing 314 Clipper (04172)

It was built OOB although I removed the rivets and scratch-built a stand for it. The upper fuselage observation windows "blob" missing from the kit so I had to scratch that too. Decals were excellent and went on very well.

It hasn't been the happiest of builds mainly due to my suffering extreme pain in my joints which is having an adverse on my ability to model right now. The photos have revealed lots of blemishes (don't they always) but to be honest I am just glad to have got it finished.

That's nice and rather unusual. I can't recall a Clipper modelled before. I hope your painful joints improve.

Looking good Dave. I remember seeing and wanting one of these as a kid, but it was way too expensive!

Never seen one of these, and you’ve made a great job of this one Dave. Hope your joints improve because I know exactly how that feels.

I sympathise with you on the joint pain - I get OA in my right hand, and I just have to give up any idea of benchtime when it flares up - I've learnt how to a lot of things left-handed, but precise work, like painting is a joke! - I just have to let it take it's course

Dave, I didn't use any decal solution at all. I just airbrushed a coat of Alclad 2 Klear Cote Gloss over the Alclad 2 Aluminium finish and that was enough of a smooth finish for decalling.
