Yet another spitfire =p

ICMs XVI. OOB Polish. Great value for money

I had fun building this even with all the filler and sanding which i feel i could have done a better job.

The decals fell apart on me but i persevered. I am not 100% satisfied with the camo but hey.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to post any crits or comments because thats what makes me aware of mistakes etc.

Aaron the interior shot with the belts is nice. Over all the build looks good. Sometimes I'll copy the cammo pattern to the computer and print it out ,then cut it and tack it to the build as a gude. All in all its a sharp looking Spit, maybe just a touch of dullcoat to kill the shine on the wheels ,just a suggestion. Cheers Trey

Thanks Trey, I gave it a klear with Tamiya flat base but it came out very satin, So that was a fail maybe the ratio was wrong but i did 3 part klear to 1 part flat. Maybe a 50/50 will be flat. Ill try that.

I think that's a very nice Spitfire Aaron. The cockpit looks great & the satin finish is realistic IMHO because I think that's how they actually looked, with the exception of the tires as per Trey's comment.

All in all, a very pleasing build, well done!

Well that turned out rather well didn't it.

Maybe some of the grey areas on the wing are a bit bigger than normal but great finish on it

I learnt a lot doing this and next time ill use a different flat coat, maybe some Vallejo flat.

Thank you readers for pointing out to matt the tyres and pay closer attention to the size of the masking.

I am quite eager to have another go.

Valid pointers from the boys, but that is what this modelling lark is all about.....learning from each other.

Like the restrained distressed (much better word used by the Antique fraternity than weathered) work you have added.

Yes I have noticed a lot of the Model Manufacturers do not show aerials. Just wonder if they feel the pictures of the model will be spoilt. Always feel that a model looks only half dressed without the aerials. Seen a lot of Lancasters without any rigging & they look dead as a Dodo.

Cammoflage (get it wrong every time). It is a rather angular in some places ie not flowing lines which they were. I will post a series of pictures of my "technique" for camouflage (got it right, brain has started working) which will get it in an accurate way. Matter of opinion but I like a soft edge to the camouflage colours where they meet. For me it gives a softer approach but as they say with that revolting cliche "all subjective". That is in real terms "I like it my way".

What are you building next Aaaron ? Many of your countrymen were in the RAF or RNZAF & flew Spitfires. The most famous in the RAF being Dowding's no 2 in the Battle of Britain. Air Vice Marshall Keith Park. But then you already knew !

As far as antennae go I think that the Mark XIV was fitted with a whip antenna for its VHF radio as per this diagram.Definitely no antenna mast and definitely no antenna wires.Wires were long gone.

I make this type of aerial from a domestic type paintbrush bristle.

I shall be checking my kit for the rod type IFF antenna for under the starboard wing.

Hi Laurie,you are right that painting a model is an artistic enterprise and therefore subjective. Everyone should paint their models in a way that they like and it is not for me or anyone else to tell them how to do it.

However I must qualify this with objective contemporary evidence and noone will convince me that these Spitfires had what can be described as a soft edged camouflage scheme at full scale,let alone at 1/32.

Thats a valid point Steve, Im sure that in the war a lot of the camo was put on with a paint brush and would have left a clear defined line as your photos show. Hey Aaron, that picture above looks just like your model in B&W
