2nd model since last attempt 23 years ago! 1:72 Hawker Hurricaine MK IIC (Revell)

    Hi all,

Cant believe that it is nearly a year since my last post November last year!

Well things have finally moved on since then and at last I have my shed sorted allowing me to have it as my child....and wife free zone for my modelling!

Before this I was having to make do with the dining room table having to put it out the way of sticky fingers meaning everything! Including keeping the wife happy as all she appreciates it as is mess!

Anyway, I must say I really enjoyed making this model. As it has only been my 2nd model since my childhood days I am really pleased with the results.

All went well apart from a few difficulties with the decals (tail rudders in particular) so in future projects I think where they will be stripes I will have a bash at masking and painting them.

As I am still learning I decided to have a go at some light weathering with chalk pastels after a coat of Klear as I read in some useful forums that it would be easier to wash off if I make a mess, after a go I found I was really pleased with my first attempts so will definitely use in the future.

Another tricky part was the cockpit, I did want it open but only realised towards end stages that the model would have required some filing to have it open so I went with the closed option to be safe after all the work.

Another new trick I learnt was the stretching the sprue technique and after a few goes made a few nice thin lengths for future models.

Anyway I will leave you to view my pictures and would really appreciate any feedback, hints an tips.

My next project out of interest will be a Hawker Hurricane MKIIB, for this project I am going to try yet a new technique of dry brushing, especially on the flight controls etc after I found a really interesting article in one of the forums on this site.

Until my next post I look forward to any feedback and comments

    Many thanks

    Rich

Welcome back Rich, you must have last posted about the time I joined the forum, hope it wasn't something I said lol.

All I can say is that you will find having your own space a great boon, it can feel antisocial but for model making, it has its advantages.

If this is your first model for such a long time, I really look forward to your second. I would have been really pleased if my first came out half as good as this (it didn't). Well done, nice work.

          Cracking job, Rich.

An excellent way to return to this great hobby, and nice to see the much neglected and underrated 'Hurri' getting an airing.

Oh, and can you get all those bloody roundabouts in Kidderminster shifted!!!? lol

              Hi guys

Thanks for all your kind comments!

Graham - I can certainly say it gives me a boost having my own space for modelling as I have just got back from the shed getting ready to start my next project...its like being kid again as I cant wait to start!

Whilst it can be anti social the best thing I find is that its definitely a stress buster, having the job I have, which is certainly stressful I find model making gives me an escape and some quiet me time to clear my head.

As for the roundabouts Ron I guess you know Kiddie well? Whilst they drive us mad I always think its not as bad as Redditch. Jasper Carrot once said you can never get out. Even my GPS proved him right as it also got lost!

Hopefully I will be posting my results of the new project in a more timely fashion this time and with a bit of luck the results above was not a fluke!

Take care all and thanks once again

              Rich
