More flying plastic..1/72 Tempest V 'Le Grande Charles'

Seeing Tony's cracking racer pictures reminded me to dig these pickies out.

They are a set of photos of the Heller 1/72 Tempest V I built, it was flown by my hero, the Frenchman Pierre Clostermann D.F.C. during WW2 showing what he did best...Train spotting!

How he survived the war beggers belief, low flying most of his missions. He had the name Le Grande Charles painted on his Tempest.

I 'borrowed' the diorama from my Partizan Attack model and got my wife to throw the aircraft along the track whilst I took pictures!!!!! Well not really....

Great stuff ron mate, closterman was indeed a legend , imagine being a german train driver and hearing the sound of an approaching tempest, --time to jump off the footplate and go for a wee methinks!!!!

Tremendous stuff. I particularly like the last photo (11 I think). The camouflage works so well in piccy 4 that I couldn't find the aircraft at first!

Fantastic Ron , I`ve only had a couple of beers but your photography or computer skills have blown me away I keep looking and still can`t see how the aircraft is airbourne , please enlighten us how you have managed to make a flying dio look so real ?

Thanks for for taking the time to have a look at these pictures chaps and the nice comments.

To answer your question Richy. If you take a look at picture 6, all is revealed. It's fishing line!

Tie a knot of the stuff around where the tail meets the fuselage, then leaving around an 18" loop, wedge the other end into the spinner/nose gap.

To take the pictures, suspend the model where you want it, I held it in my left hand and camera in my right. Twist the line around the model for the right angle, and look at the l.e.d. screen, turn the model and you will see that at the right angle what little of the line is reflecting light magically vanishes...In picture 6 you can just see the line going up from the tail, bo****ks!

So there you go, simple but effective. Try it out...

Got me fooled all the way, first I looked for the line and couldn't find it then I suspected of some ultra fancy digital effect. Loved it!

Fancy digital effects? No chance, I can just about manage to one finger type and upload pictures, that's it I'm afraid. Mind you, it's all I want!

Nice one Ron. I would of given you six stars, but I can see the string in one of the photos! (and only the one!) So you will have to settle for five stars.

I think it admirable that even in the heat of war even pilots had time for a hobby. OK trainspotting would not be my first chioce, but then again, If I had the same gear as he did, I could be tempted!!!
