This is the last one for a bit, I promise. I wasn't going to originally post a few of these as my latest builds have been pretty crude.
This is another old Airfix kit from my ancient stash. So old in fact that the decals were not usable, which I did not discover until I had painted it in the box art scheme. Doing a little research showed that some China-based P-51Bs wore basic overall drab schemes with grey undersides and carried aluminium drop tanks. So I repainted the model completely in overall drab with grey undersides and refitted the drop tanks. The name 'Mac' and the 'Ace of Spades' were from an old decals set of random aircraft, as were the 'stars and bars' which required trimming. The star roundels are a bit translucent and there was a bit of silvering involved, but I managed to hide the worst of it with careful dabs of olive drab. As I was repainting this, one blade decided it was time to depart, so I scrounged a replacement propeller from an old P-51D I had scrapped years ago. The Airfix P-51B is not true to shape and has too much of a wing kink compared to the real P-51B and to me the canopy looks a little low or flat. But for an oldie it was a good and fun build.
