I picked this kit up for a fiver at the Newark Show. Its an old kit with not many parts. But it was a lot of fun to build.I wanted to do it as a Korean War Fleet Air Arm aircraft and luckily I had an 'Almark' decal sheet that I bought many years ago.Unfortunately, the blue on the roundels on the sheet was too dark.So I used roundels from a 1/72 'Model decal' sheet of post WW2 roundels out of my decal collection. The Aircraft I've modelled is the one flown by commander Peter Carmichael of 802 Naval Air Squadron. On August 9,1952 at the height of the Korean War he allegedly shot down a North Korean Mig15 in this aircraft.I say 'allegedly' as although he was credited with the kill,it's not certain who from his flight actually shot it down. This model has taken me longer to finish than expected.Thats because last Monday I had a fall at work and broke my right arm up near the shoulder joint. So I've had to finish it with my arm in a sling!.Luckily I had masked and painted the stripes before the accident. The only extras I've done to the kit are add some PE seat belts and add some wing tip lights from clear sprue sanded to shape and polished.

Bout time someone did some aircraft from the forgotten war, Good on ya Dave.!(am
i a bit biased here ...errrr .... yup!!)
Nice build, lovely paint work in my opinion, weathering looks natural too. great job mate
My Korean war book says he was the last to sustain fire on the Mig so he got the credit for the kill, also it is (was) the only recorded instance of a jet engined fighter being shot down by a British piston engined aircraft.Comment

Beautiful job dave , its a fantastic looking aircraft the sea fury and the FAA colours just suit it perfectly. The build and paint are flawless , and all for a fiver!! Hope the broken wing doesnt take too long to heal , at least youve proved that you can still model with one arm in a sling so no excuses , we want to see another completed build next week !! Great build , cheers tonyComment

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.Hopefully the arm should heal in 6 to 8 weeks. The problem is Ive got an artificial joint in my right elbow that also took a knock.Thats going to need an operation sometime as part of it is starting to come through the bone of my forearm.Got to see a specialist surgeon about that. Its not coming through the skin and the elbow still works.so not quite as bad as it sounds.Ive contacted some injury lawyers to try to get some compensation as I don't believe the accident was my fault. In the mean time Ive got 6 weeks off work,so should get plenty of modelling time.Comment
