Thought I'd posted this earlier, but can't find it now!

A nice kit to build, but let down by the paint, and the decals, which are very fragile and wouldn't settle over the bulges in the wings. As soon as I've finished the second part of the GB I'm going to attack it with Microsol and matt coat!
    Thanks for watching,
    Pete

      Hi Peter
That is a very nice result considering the restrictions. My experience with the decals was the same - Oh for some MicroSol :smiling:

I wasn't happy with the silvering, so now that I've finished the Part 2 Spit, I didn't see any point in leaving this one 'as built under the GB rules', so I treated it to some Microsol and matt Galeria. I wasn't careful enough with the Microsol, and parts of three of the wing roundels flaked off - I'll call that chipping!

There's still a little bit of silvering on the big side decals, in spite of pricking them with the tip of a pointed scalpel and multiple doses of Microsol, but it's a lot better, and the matt varnish has evened-out the finish fairly well.
I reckon this shows that the biggest difference between building using the starter set only, or building with only the plastic from the starter set but otherwise a free hand, is the use of decal solution and the matt varnish.

Flacked decals, just wear and tear, all helps with the overall effect.
