    MK XVI Spitfire engine colour?

I've lost my mojo for building right now due to my "brother" forcing the sale of my home and so I've been looking through my stash trying to get inspiration again.

I've been looking to build the Revell Supermarine Spitfire MK.XVI I have for something easy ish. Whilst reading the painting guide I notice it says to paint the main block a dust grey Revell number 77, this seems a little light from what little I know considering the box art shows a very dark grey yet the actual side box picture of a completed model shows an almost aluminium colour.

I know there are far more knowledgeable people on here so I thought I would ask for you advice

I was so tempted to say " Is that because they are black and white photo's "

Anyway went back through the pictures I took at Duxford and found this one, I have to say I'd always thought they were black as well.

A restoration can be any colour the owner fancies, it's his or hers, whose to say they can't have it pink if that's what they want

War time engines looked like this:

Ther's more oil on ther overalls than in the engine! That's why we calld them sumpys in the RAF.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

I'll go with black and a little dry brushing then
