Is this overpriced or is it really good?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VERY-RARE-VINTAGE-1972-REVELL-JAPAN-B-25-MITCHELL-B-25B-DOOLITTLE-RAIDER-1-48-/221578897843?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item339721a9b3

Buy it now on Flea Bay for $219

Is this a really good kit or is the seller a bit of a dreamer?

It's a bit out of my price range. Just imagine dropping a bit and the carpet monster gets it!

Well for as long as they are selling the accurate minutures version for about $40 I cant see that one selling. What makes me laugh though is that its the doolittle version and yet the main pictures suggests its an RAF version with the doolittle as an alternative version

I nearlt got the accurate minitures one last night for about £40 including international postage. However, I asked the seller if he would be prepared to declare a value of $10 so that I didnt pay customs charges and by the time he got back I fell alseep (It has a 4am finish time) and I missed the end of the auction

So desperate to get hold of that kit again. It doesnt fit into any of my model themes other than it was an awesome model to build (Well half build anyway)

According to the old saying "something is worth what someone will pay for it".

For me that kit is over priced but I've bought books for £30 which I've seen bought for nearly ten times that amount! You never know

            Cheers

I don't know about the rarity value of the box, but I sold the model kit it contains for about £15 last year.

Not had anything to do with Italeri. Are they any good ?

The Penelope's Revell Mitchell has all the Doolittle markings (were the raid aircraft like this or did the markings come about after the raid ? !). Not sure that the recent Revell and the Italeri have those markings. Being the Doolittle Raid and it's significance I suspect that is why somebody is hoping for a Doolittle enthusiast.

It is collectability of the box and box art that is pushing the price not the actual kit. There are certain modelers that build but also collect box's and box art-first editions etc. I sold an old Airfix Target box of figures for a tenner-all down to the box not the contents. As Laurie points out, due to the Doolittle connection is also bumping up the price. I would see if there are 1/48 after-market decals for the Doolittle aircraft in 1/48 and then get a B25 cheaply.
