The Flying Pencil

Evening all! So I notice Airfix is releasing a Dornier Do17z in the next few weeks:

    http://www.airfix.com/dornier-do17z-1-72.html

This has piqued my interest as the RAF Museum dredged one out of the sands near Kent a few years back and it's been in wet room ever since as one of the last surviving examples. Any chance anyone knows if this is timed for the real thing to go on display or timed that something's happening with it? Or it just took Airfix 4 years to knock up a kit for it?!

That's good news, the original Airfix Do17 dated back to 1972, and the newer Revell one I think was based on the 1966 Monogram kit. Some sprue shots and a review (in German though) here http://www.plastik-modellbau.org/blog/testshots-vorgestellt-heute-airfix-dornier-do-17z-in-172/2014/ Some nice detail in the wing roots, not sure whether that matters as the wing would hide it but nice all the same.

I've been to Cosford a few times this year where the Do17 is been "restored" well, cleaned, there isn't much to see but I understand they are not doing a full restoration just a clean up and then on display.

Here's about all you can see

That's awesome! I started a 6 month contract in Telford today, when I've got me some hotel trips sorted I'll be sure to make a visit, cheers for the heads up, didn't realise it already was on display!

Oh god, I hope it's a new tool and not just a repackage!

Here go, found a test build for a magazine:

                    http://www.hyperscale.com/2014/galleries/do17z72ap_1.htm

Those canopies look a proper biatch to mask, but conversely this looks to be one of the few planes where you'll need a lot of detail in the cockpit as it'll be really exposed, looks to be a great looking kit. Might have to add this to the Christmas Wish List!

There was a test build in the Airfix Modellers magazine, this month or last month not sure which as I don't buy regularly, looks a very nice kit.

This has probably got more to do with the 75th anniversary of the BoB next year than a mouldy old crate in a wet room , this is probably why so many hurricanes have been new tooled over the last year or so
