    English Electric Lightning commission builds!

I've been asked to build 2 English Electric Lightning aircraft!!

Now I've a few concerns that I'm hoping people can help me with, so first up the "client" has purchased the Airfix 1:48th kits, are these good kits, has anyone built this kit and what were your thoughts?

Next up, he's asked for me to do them in a particular Squadron, now having looked around I cannot find decals to do this, so is there someone out there that can do custom decals that you could recommend?

Finally, I think I should do a build log and keep him updated on a regular basis, so should I send him pictures each week or just when major strides forward have been completed?

I have to be honest I'm not too sure about taking this on as I mainly do Sci-fi with other builds thrown in, having never been into cold war jets I may be out of my depth.

The Airfix Lightnings are excellent kits, cant help with the decals though, there do seem to be a lot of options around though.

You are going to have to find the relevant artwork for any squadron emblems etc and that will leave you with a couple of options. You could get custom decals made, I know this guy did some for a friend a while ago.

Or you could get some masks made and then spray the markings. For this I'd suggest Mal Mayfield here.

A good kit oob, but some resin seats will help as the kit ones are a bit basic. Also the rather large wheel wells benefit from some added detail.

As for the markings. Which birds are they he wants doing? Serial, date and squadron... Standard paint of bare metal...

As for keeping updated. Ask him how often he would like an update, Are you charging an hourly rate or a fast price?

Mike (expat) makes verk nice decals, he might help if you ask him nicely

Made this kit some time ago, generally good. See link below, may help you decide.

He's sending me more details, but what I know so far is that he wants 11 sqd and in camo not BMF. He has already bought every extra bit you can name to be added, PE, resin seats, metal landing gear and the engines etc.

I said as it was my first time at commission building jets I'd charge a flat rate for the two and he agreed.
