Now this is a surprise but a very welcome one

I decided to get the airfix 1/48 mossie after seeing dave w's one and I've just opened the box to find two sets of fuselage, two sets of wings, and two sets of engines infact the only thing you don't get a double of is the rear stabiliser wings otherwise you could biuld two mossies

I can now do one complete mossie and a crashed mossie

    Now that's cool

The second set of fuse and wings are new tool and this is the parts in the instructions
Just noticed there is only one set of propellers but that's not a problem in a crash build

Nice one, you could add any props as they will be bent it makes no difference. You don't get the underside wing bits either do you? I don't get it, either a mistake or can you make different versions?

Oh yeah but if you crash it in snow you can get away with that

The new Sprues look good.Ive noticed the props are on the old sprue. They are bigger than the paddle blade props in the Tamiya kit. Don't know which is the more accurate. But I used the ones left over from my Tamiya mk4 when I built the Airfix kit.As you say, the only thing stopping you building Two mossies is the lack of an extra set of tailplanes and props. In your first pic on the lower sprue,it looks like you get a choice of bomb bas.Theres a 4000lb bomb and bulged bomb bay doors on it.I will Definately have to get one now!.

The last surprize I got opening a model box was a badly warped right hand fuselage on my super connie.....I much prefere your surprize!

You could even sctatch build those tails and have 2 full kits. better still just make a mold and resin cast a set for yourself.

That's a good idea Theuns. Al, just get some Plasticine and make a basic mold using the tailplane, then just get some two part epoxy, mix up and add, leave to go off and you should be able to make the tailplane sections.

That's a good idea theuns , I have some plasticard I might be able to shape some balsa wood and put it over the top using the ones in the kit as a template

                      This is not a mistake.

Airfix just did the new parts to enable another mark to be built. The new wings on the old fuselage. This gives you the twin stage motors and the longer nacels

This is the one with the all blue US photo recon on the box i believe.

Its the same kit, just a reboxing. The original boxing of the PR.XVI had a US version on the front., Airfix have re released it as a D-Day special.

Shape wise it is still one of the best and most correct in 1/48!

Funny enough with out to much hassle you can get the redundant wings from the Airfix to fit the Tamiya and make a version that has not been Kitted. Just cant remember which one!

Yup it's the rebox ID never seen the old so I didn't realise , the great thing about this kit is its 95% new tool with recessed panel lines although they do look a little out of scale to the tamiya version and the new cockpit is just as good as the tamiya , the new tool canopy is better than the tamiya

With these new additions I'd say this is a better version than tamiya
