I got the Academy/Minicraft B-17E in the stash, looks just OK. But I heard the newer B-17 Memphis Belle has quite good review in the net.
Flying Fortress- Italeri or Revell?

Sorry, bit rushed set of pics (and I think I really need to get a newer camera, resolution is probably worse than mobiles now):

There 3 bags of sprues, probably 10 or 11 in total excluding the transparencies. Not opened the bags yet apart from one, etched lines, 3 colour schemes and pretty sure Eduard has a bunch of after market PE - I have one set for flaps but I think they have quite a bit for this model.

I've found a set of five Revell planes from my local shop including the Flying Fortress for £27, so I think I will get it at some point, thanks for the info, very useful:P

Another 'modern' 1/72 B-17 is the Academy kit. I think there are three versions, a very early one with the older-style tail and glazing, a B-17F and the B-17G. I believe they also have the different tail turrets. The only problem with the Academy kit is the dihedral of the wings, but is easily rectified using plastic inserts.
I have both the ancient Airfix G and the newer Academy F. Worlds apart in detail. The Academy also gives you extra propeller blades for different versions in the one box, a wee bonus if you needed to raid them for something else later. Also probably cheaper than the Revell or other brands making new tool versions of the Flying Fortress.Comment
