MiG corporation has handed over to the Slovakian AF an initial batch of four MiG-29 fighters upgraded to meet NATO/ICAO standards.
One of these airplanes is to be demonstrated at ILA-2006 air show in Berlin in May 2006, Sergei Tsivilev, the first deputy MiG chief designer, told at a news-conference. In all, there will be a total of 12 upgraded MiG-29 fighters which are currently in service with Slovakia's AF. Upgrade of the Slovakian Mig-29 aircraft has been carried out according to NATO standards in close co-operation with BAE Systems and Rockwell Collins. The MiG corporation is also actively cooperating with some West European companies such as EADS, Tales, Safran, Reinmetall Defense Electronic and others.
The Slovakian AF's so-upgraded MiG-29 will be able to participate, with no limitations, in NATO operations, and meet ICAO requirements. State identification system allows for targets to be classified without addressing ground control centres. The introduction of navigational receivers and multifunctional indicator as a compliment to airborne equipment would enable to display navigational airplane situation connected with a given aircraft position. Instead of pointer and scale instruments graded in metric system, instruments displaying miles, pounds and feet are mounted.
