what's the best biggest scale Lancaster model

Hi all my bosses husband has told me he will buy the Bentley when it's finished. My boss today asked me if I had modeled planes, I told her I had done a few and she said she would pay me to build 2 spitfires and a lancaster (apparently her father used to work on the Lancaster) she wants them in formation flying in her conservatory, I have the 1/72 revell legends version which is could use, but if she's paying I may as well start with the best model (I know next to nothing about planes other than the fact ive built 4 so far)

I don't know if they are the biggest but Tamiya do several 1/48th Lancasters.

Tamiya do 1/48 scale lancs and as far as I know this is the biggest at the moment but HK models have a 1/32 scale in the works I saw a mock up at Telford and it's huge

The 70's vintage Tamiya 1/48, nahhhhhh there's better than that coming up...... - there is the 1/32 scale HK Models Lancaster being release this year and it looks to be an outstanding model and will be if their B17 is anything on which to base expectations.

Bear in mind the best Spitfires in any scale are the Tamiya 1/32 ones currently available that would be one incredable and spectacular display.

The 1/32 Lanc will have a wingspan of over 3 feet so your boss' hubby would need a big room!!! But wow it sounds to me he would love it.

The big question is would she be willing to pay for Two Tamiya Spitfires and a HK Models Lan. Just the kits and paint are going to cost you a lot of over time...

But it sure would be impressive.

And to be honest I'm not sure I would do a good enough job to justify the expence that said she thinks nothing of spending 6000 quid a week on what I would call rubbish from our places like QVC.

If you do decide to do this in 1/48 you will find very good Spitfires and Hurricanes but should be aware that the Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster is a VERY old kit, spruced up from time to time with a few new bits or decals. It can be made into a very nice Lancaster, but don't expect something like the more recent Tamiya offerings.

                    Cheers

There isn't one! Fundamentally the kit dates from the mid seventies. I built the MkI/III kit a while ago and there were some new sprues included if I remember correctly.

Don't be put off. The fit of the lit is not bad at all. Watch out for the fit of the nacelles to the wing. I didn't follow the instructions but figured something else out to ease this. Unfortunately I can't remember what!

There are a few things to correct, like the massively over molded tape lines running across the wings (no idea where Tamiya got them from). The interior is very sparse and there are some issues with the floor, but none of this should matter if it will be hanging from a ceiling. If you do the bomb bay open it would be worth considering some detailing for the interior.

                        Cheers
