Am giving this 1/48 Spitfire XVI my fullest attention at the moment however maybe I've been spoiled but there appears to be pretty much no locating pins so far - doesn't seem to have hampered me so far but there's none at all on the fuselage halves which seems quite odd. Anyone built this model or indeed has anyone got any tips for how to get the halves mated up nicely? Dry fitting them (if you can call it that) has been like nailing jelly to a wall - dread to think what mess I might get into when there's glue in the equation!

From what i remember some Dragon models are like this too. Some say it gives a better fit and some don't. All i can suggest is take care lol -

Yep it was a 'yer on yer own' type thing lmao. All i can suggest is masking tape to hold it in place. Now as for that video.... i'm quite scared that you knew where to find that sort of 'music' and i use the term 'music' in the loosest possible term lolComment

As someone said,tape the halves together and then glue short sections checking the alignment each time you glue. Remember liquid cement will not only move down seams by capillary action but also around tape. That can make a mess as I found out the hard way.

Make your own pins all you need are 3 srips of plasticard put 2 inside 1 side of the fuseliage. Then 1 strip on the other side join to gether a bit like a zip.It should hold it still until the glue sets .Comment

I have an ICM spitfire 48th kit in the stash, the one with the RAF figures, but have only had a cursory glance, I never noticed the lack of pins, I guess it's something that doesn't occur until you come to fixing it together.
I've heard of people cutting pis off to get better alignment though.Comment

Yeah, and the more things I read about the kit online the more I am regretting building the engine up - seems that the top cowling simply won't go on if you use the engine :-(I've heard of people cutting pis off to get better alignment though.

Has to be done sometimes! I've suffered pins either so badly molded that they won't fit into their locating hole,or simply just molded in the wrong place.Originally posted by \
I've also used papa 695's (Ian) tab system. Infact it's how I fitted the flaps,in the up position,on my Ta152 recently. They helped keep the "front" edge of the flap lined up with the trailing edge of the wing.

Have just dry fitted (using masking tape) the two halves together, and put the engine in. Yep, it's true, there is *no way* the top cowling will go on with the engine installed. Thank you ICM!!! Grrr :-(Comment
