    Diorama - 41 Squadron, Kastrup, Denmark 1945

    Hi all;

    This is my very first attempt at a diorama, so be gentle with me! The idea is a scene at Kastrup airfield, Denmark in May 1945. 41 Squadron are based there, equipped with Spitfire Mk XIVe, and they also have a captured FW 190-F8, which has been painted in RAF colours and given the 41 Sqn code EB-? The 190 is featured in the 'Captured Butcher Birds' book on the last page, where there is one grainy picture of the starboard side (the only known shot); the wording says the aircraft was used by 41 'for evaluation and pleasure flights'! So, I have imagined that the 2 pilots in the foreground have just returned from a trip where they flew against each other to see how the Spit and the 190 compare.

    The models used are the Academy Spitfire XIVe, the Tamiya 190F-8, the Tamiya Austin Tilley (yes, I know the RAF didn't actually have them), and figures from the ICM RAF Personnel set, all in 1/48. I made the base using sculptamold, brown acrylic paint, and 3 shades of model railway grass.

    Many thanks to The Migrant in Canada, who sent me the Luftwaffe Black 1 decals just visible under the 41 Sqn codes on the 190!
