    Beaufighter question

    Hello,

I noticed on a photo of a Polish Mustang III escorting a torpedo armed Beau Mk. X marked P6-S (of the North Coates strike wing), that there's a small squarish flap protruding down from (it appears) the fuselage behind the wing root).

    Anyone know what it is?

Hi tom , the flap is actually one if the Plywood fins on the rear end of the Torpedo . These additional fins were designed to provide stability while the torpedo was in being dropped and were designed to break away when it hit the water , hope this helps cheers tony

I had an inkling that was what they're where.

Could you point me in the direction of some other references/pics/diagrams of them?
