Buying on the Internet - not good now.

I've been buying various things on the Internet for about 8 years now with not really any problems.

2 years ago I bought a few IC Model Aircraft items when I got what I expected from the dealers after I placed the order.

I refer to an email confirming my order, then an email informing me my transaction was successfull, that is my CCard accepted the transaction.

That all items were in stock or not, and finally an email informing me when the item/s was despatched.

That does not happen now with the dealers that I have dealt with in the past 4 weeks. No emails at all.

Regarding a successfull transaction, it's not the first time I accidentally entered the wrong expiry date, so an email of that problem would speed up the process on that.

Two weeks I placed an order, I'm still waiting on some sort of notification on it, my CCard hasn't been charged, it was only for two motor mounts.

Then notification of despatch. I just don't get this, why has this stopped, I get my items sent by mext day delivery so I therefore have to stay indoors to sign for it. What if I'm not in, my neighbours are either working or on holiday or something.

You may ask why don't I go to my local dealer, no way, I got stung by him.

    Standards are dropping all right.

My problem was that the web site showed 20 sets of rotor blades in stock,so I ordered two sets and then received a E-Mail saying they would not be in stock for several weeks?

So I cancelled them (On the phone) the chap said Ok that's fine.

Next morning they arrived before 9.00!

Perhaps the power of cancellation worked

always does, my dad just told ntl we wanted to cancel and they offered us 10meg broadband for the price of 1meg for 3months!!!

we werent really going to leave but just knew that this little trick worked.

after the 3 months is up we are moving to talk talk (carphone warehouse's new broadband/phone line package which is alot cheaper than ntl and getting sky HD digital (at long last!!!)

but you are right, standards are dropping. one main reason may be to sell things in a shop or on a market stall, you need a lisence.....on the net however, you dont (especially with ebay) so any crook of dell boy can scam people or give them poor or no customer service what so ever.

does anyone know if our statatory rights apply on the internet as well?

Yes they do plus the distance selling regs come into force as well (bare in mind that this only applies to traders not private sales)

There is a fairly new law called 'The distant selling act' it has been set up to deal with things like internet transactions,a great pity that E-bay do not mention it and make their customers abide by it,yes statutory rights should apply whatever the method of transaction, but from personal experience the firms just ignore your e-mails,only recently I received an electronic item smashed to pieces on delivery because they placed it in a flimsy jiffy bag, despite complaining to E-bay who passed me to Pay-pal the company shirked out of doing anything about it,I tried to complain again to Pay-pal who flushed it out because the complaint had expired, now what good is that ? the companies know this and just hope that you will go away, they are keen enough to take your money in the first place then give a shoddy service, there certainly needs to be a few changes regarding on-line selling to make sure the customer is not duped, otherwise people will get dis-illusioned with this method of selling.

            Yes Barrry,

You can also go to the Trading Standards people, in fact, when the hullaballoo started over the Sony rootkit, I went onto to the Trading Standards site, lo & behold, there is a section on just this, long distance selling.

I don't remember the url, but a search for Trading Standards should get you there.
