    Disaster and lessons learnt!

Two steps forward and one back? It's more like the other way round for me tonight!

After many hours of gluing, filling and sanding I thought it's time to apply the undercoat. So equipped with a can of Halfords finest grey plastic primer off I went to the shed to spray the Spitfire and the seperate rear wings.

To be honest spraying the main model went well with a nice finish, but when I sprayed the rear wings the pressure from the can flip the little wing over onto and into the wet paint. Not a problem I thought, I'll get some thinners and quickly remove it but unfortunately in my haste my picked up the can of airbrush cleaner instead and sprayed that on the small rear wing.

Well, the paint came off lovely....... along with the detail..... closely followed by melting the plastic! One wrecked rear wing.

So 2 hard lessons learnt tonight.....

    1. Don't use AB cleaner on plastic.

    2. When using a can to spray a model use whitetak to hold the parts down in position.

So now what's the best way to finish the model off minus a rear wing?

Is it possible to order 1 sprue out of a kit (Tamiya 1/48th Spitfire MkVb) rather than buying the complete kit?

It's a long shot but has anyone got a spare port side rear wing for the above kit?

I reckon I'd have less issues renovating a full size original.. lol.

    Atb, Colin.
