    Stearman

Ok im sure you all know what a Stearman is so i wont go into that.

the problem i have is about 5-10 years ago my Uncle (who lives in australia) gave me a matchbox model of one. it a logo and Royal Air Mail and Australian National Airways LTD on it. these are the only markings and it is painted entirely silver (weather this is true to life or just matchbox saving on money i dont know)

it has copywrite 1991 on it and a code which i guess is the matchbox model no. :SB39

can anyone find out any info on this plane and if it was ever used by the australian royal air force and i would love to see some pictures!

    thanks

    Richard

    edit:

oh yea i will get some pictures of it up tomorrow when i can get some good natural light!

and for the mean time for those of you who dont know what it is its made my Boeing and is used widely for crop dusting and "wing walking" if anyone has seen the crunchy planes...thats them!

***RJ,your model of the Boeing Stearman is a limited edition done by Matchbox in conjunction with Australian National Airways Ltd,it is to commemorate the company and the work it did on the airmail service, which served various islands during the nineteen thirties, however the company operated De Havilland DH.83 Fox Moth's but never Stearmans ! this was the nearest model that Matchbox had in their range to do the necessary artwork,so there is artistic licence in that direction.

As far as I know there were no Boeing Stearmans in R.A.A.F service, the Tiger Moth was the favourite choice as their standard primary trainer.

There are various colourschemes for this model in circulation, for example Cadbury's World did one in a beautiful mauve/blue colour with gold trim, and the casting was also used as a sales promotion with the 'Utterly Butterly' logos on packs of their products.

Would love to see some pictures of this model, and I trust the above answers your questions.Thank you.
