BS, heat or sun discoloration on this BF109F?

    Hello all:

So, what do you think about this red hood? I'd really like to build it in this scheme but according to some research and Eaglecals, the hood and rudder are yellow. Would heat or faded paint cause a misrepresentation while viewing from a Black and white photo? Thanks guys, Jeff

I believe the accepted colours today are a yellow cowling and rudder. I think the red is considered a mis-interpretation of some photos that do show a contrast between the upper cowling and lower panier. I've had a quick look to see if I can find one of those to no avail (mind you a house full of relatives isn't helping much). RLM 04 did fade and weather in some odd ways.

B+W photo interpretation is very subjective.

I reckon that if you fancy a red cowling you should do it anyway!

    Cheers

    Steve

Thank you Steve!!! Believe it or not in around 5 hours we're also having a house full of relatives! I really appreciate you trying to find info on this subject. I may do a heavy fade to create the contrast. I'm kinda a non fiction guy so being a Luftwaffe buff really goes against my grain............:blow:Take care, Jeff

If steve doesn't know then I doubt anyone else could clarify. As he says though, if you like it, (i do btw), paint it anyway, who's to say what bizarre colour combinations occurred on military vehicles during the war years!

One day I'll do a Do17 of KG 76 with a nice pink, that's right PINK,vertical bar across the fin/rudder hinge line. There's a nice picture of this part on top of a building in Vauxhall Bridge Road, being guarded by a disinterested looking soldier. The rest of the aeroplane came down on Victoria station.

          Cheers

Sounds very cool, Steve! I sense a bottle of RLM23 in my future.
