First AMK F-14 Tomcat group build.

Hi guys, dunno if this is the right place to put this.
Just recently attended the first AMK F14 Tomcat GB by the ten chosen modelers by AMK today.
Lots to see and what a build...all styles by the selected sifus in our country.

Hi, I promised more pictures of the ten kits. Just managed to download them. They're all AMK kits and the images are from postings in our chatgroup.

The kits were built stock standard as per instructed. Nobody had instruction sheets to work with as they weren't printed yet when the ten builders recieved their kits. What you see are details that come with the kit. The weapons itself were impressive with all the decalling. Overall as usual there were some issues and it was great to get first hand feedback from the modelers although I'm not a jet fan. These photos were beautifully shot by one of our members.

This one was built by one of our creative members. We joked that he didn't have enough time to complete the undercarriage so he came up with this brilliant crash barrier scene. :tears-of-joy:

        Richard,
Exceptional build skills there, I am also not a big fan of jets, but looking at these photo's I am very tempted.

They are all very well presented but I particularly like the "crash barrier" scene.

        Paul.

Superb set of models - Interesting to see the different levels of weathering - from restrained to really grubby!
I'd love to have a go at an AMK F-14 - sadly I have a 1/48 Tomcat already in my stash ( HobbyBoss )..................

Hi Dave, I have the same problem...mines an Academy kit. :smiling6: And I'm a one kit builder unless it calls for several in a dio.

Great photos, and they're all fantastic Tomcats. Except for the one rogue F-5 in there!

Some very nice skills, and useful photos as I'm just about to starting weathering my Tamiya Tomcat.

What was the general consensus of opinion on the AMK kit?

Hi Chris, no AMK, not Academy. This is a recently released and hotly anticipated kit which supposedly rivals the Tamiya version.

Bob, the AMK has all the detail you need in an F-14 but most say the Tammy kit is the easier to build. Still there are shape issues on both kits. The AMK has a tight fit and the plastic that these guys got for their test builds was brittle so when dry fitting it went well like a glove but once gluing starts from one end the other areas will pop up. Also the builders had to build without the instruction sheet. The production batch has addressed the plastic issue I was told.
Everyone went goo goo with the ordnance...the painting and decaling was a session itself.
If you want just one F-14 with lots of detail and parts in your inventory and not a squadron then the AMK is the one to get for now but then someone will eventually come out with the definitive kit some day. :smiling2:

                          Cheers,
                          Richard

Don't talk to me about decals, the Tammy kit has 24 seperate decals for one AIM-54.

Just caught up with this Richard, superb work on those Tomcats:astonished:.
Saw some pics on AMKโ€™s FB page awhile ago and your pics make the picture complete, many thanks for sharing:thumb2:.

Love that crash barrier scene a lot but the weathered ones are very neat too.
