Yesterday, i went into town with the intention of buying a Zero (which i got) and also a P47D Thunderbolt.I was looking through a cupboard at home and found a book on RAF Thunderbolts i hadnt seen for a few years .I suddenly got this burning desire to buid a P47D in South East Asia Command colours.Had a look in my decal collection and found a sheet of roundels and fin flashes in the dark blue/light blue colours. So there i was in the hobby shop.Found the Hasegawa 1/48 Zero for £20.Very reasonable i thought. Its a funny old shop.A lot of kits are overpriced. But if you look hard you can find several well under the RRP!.I then found two thunderbolts.A Hasegawa Razor back and the Academy bubble canopy version.I decided on the Hasegawa kit and paid for it and the Zero. When i got home i opened the P47 box and thought 'that looks a bit small for 1/48'.I'd only gone and got the 1/72 kit!!!.So i took it back this morning and they very kindly exchanged it for the Academy kit.I got home feeling pleased. looked at the box again and realised i'd got the P47N!!!!.I even had my reading glasses with me when i bought it so can't use that as an excuse. Then i opened the box and what a fantastic kit it contains. There are three different types of drop tanks, two types of rockets and two different bombs. All the parts are superbly moulded with fine engraved detail. And all for only £16!!.Incidently that was the price of the Hasegawa 1/72 kit which should have been a bit of a give away.I mean, come on, a 1/48 Hasegawa kit for £16?.Silly old sod!.Anyone who has'nt built an Academy kit yet, have a look at the pictures below. All it needs is some seat belts and maybe some different decals if you dont like the kit ones.Fantastic value for money i think.Especially when you consider i paid the same price for the old Airfix St
