    decal problem

    hi,

I've just noticed that a top wing decal is slightly out of alignment on a 1:72 P-51 and it bothers me! The model is complete so the gloss cover (future equivalent) has been applied.

Can I re-align by using something like Micro-Sol?.. will this work over future? .. or do I have to strip the wing, get another decal and start again?

    many thanks

If youve applied Klear / Future over the decal then micro sol wont affect it. Youll have to strip the wing of klear by dissolving it with another coat. Apply a good coat of klear and after about 2 mins wipe the wing , keep doing this until all the klear is off. The decal may not move even now so be prepared to have to take it off completely and apply a new one.Another option is to sand off the whole wing and repaint and decal from scratch.Hope this helps and Good luck , cheers tony

As Tony says. I'd just add that Klear can be removed with a DILUTE solution of ammonia. Local type hardware stores still sometimes carry ammonia solution but you need to dilute it 10:1.

To remove the decal try lifting it with sellotape, you may be lucky. Failing that you are into scraping and sanding so may well end up redoing the whole wing.

      Cheers

sorry to hijack but having my own mini disaster of the same nature. When I paint my wing with klear, decals are lifting. Luckily only micro size battery labels 1mm wide, but also lost a major decal to bluetac. Can anyone advise? I have Microsol in post. Should I halt work till it arrives

PS none of my decals have anything on them except the one wing
