    future finish?

    Helo all:

    Just not surte about this one:

    My just about finished 190 is now nothing more than a shiny, "pebbly finished" heap. At 20psi, shooting this stuff strait onto the plane has yielded a very fine grain like texture-I think orange peel but not sure. Any ideas on how to get this stuff off or smooth prior to application? Thanks, Jeff

      Try cleaning it with Windex. I have read that Windex is good for cleaning an airbrush after using Future. So maybe it would be good for removing it from a model, I also believe that it can be used to thin future as well.

      You might try finscale.com for tips.

          I would experiment with scrap before trying to remove it from the model otherwise you could end up with a mess. Future is basically a gloss acrylic varnish so you could try the normal solvents such as Tamiya acrylic paint thinners. The worry is what paint you have sprayed the Future over. If that is acrylic as well then you are going to struggle finding something that will remove only the Future.

              Before taking it off try misting a coat of very dilute ammonia solution over it. This may well smooth it out. Ammonia is the "active ingredient" in Windex and some other window cleaners. I bought a strong solution from a hardware store and diluted it down by a factor of about 50.

              BTW I now brush Future/Klear on. It's self levelling and I always get a nice glossy

                  Hi Guys!:

                  Thank you so much for your opinions and experience. I posted this last year so since then I've experimented quite a bit with this stuff. Ammonia seems to work with a cotton bud but this is very sloppy and sheds cotton. I've just completed a Stormovik IL-2 and had awesome results, as was suggested above by brushing on with very small strokes. This is just enough for decal application but would like to just buff or wet sand the paint to achive a smooth finish instead of clear coating. I'd rather only need a final flat cover and to my looks very real. When I was up close to the BF109 this summer and being allowed to feel the skin, control surfaces with the flight crew present really opened my eyes to the correct sheen and finish of a real working aircraft!
