    ideas for WWII concrete airfield?

hey, i would like to build an airfield to put some of my planes on (about 5).

I have a general idea, but would like to know any other techniques that would benefit me. Any pictures of landing field dioramas would be of much help too.

    thanks

Working on an airfeld dio myself to put propliners on its lots of work . Just an idea but if you style it along the lines of an ATA field you can display lots of different types side by side and still maintain an authentic feel. There was such an airfield close to where we live during the war and photos we have seen show a wide varity of aircraft rubbing shoulders. Another advantage is that the buildings are quite simple easy scracth building . If the idea appeals let me know and I'll e-mail you some pics

Yes, I would definitly like to see some pictures if it isn't too big of a bother. If you could send them to canadian_kid_70@hotmail.com that would be great. Thanks

        Howdy Chris,

        Welcome to the forum!

I kinda found a concrete airfield when i bought my house, if you get a chance, you might look at my gallery. I photograph my models on my concrete driveway with the hedge and some trees as a backdrop. I realize this is not exactly what you are looking for, but the driveway does give the impression of a concrete tarmac.

        Have a good day,

        Greg aka GW

I like the idea of model airfields and have built a few myself over the years, these have varied from 1=200th Dinky Toy aircraft size to 1=72nd sections of airfields,I say sections as a complete full sized airfield in miniature would take up a lot of space ! take a tip out of the model railway community and why not build say a dispersal area, hangars and section of runways all as separate modules, this way they are compact and can be easily displayed alongside each other in diorama style.

Someone once asked me to put on an airfield display in a large hall, after a lot of thinking I came up with a compromise firstly laying a large sheet of green baize across some tables, then positioned various hangars, vehicles, control tower and crew together with the necessary aircraft,it looked very effective to visitors and was quickly dismantled at the end of the days show.

Another tip is to use smaller scale models in the background, this has an excellent scale effect against any skyline.

You can see sections of some of my diorama style mock ups for photographic model work in my diary pages, they were fun to put together and add extra interest to the subject matter.

Best of luck with your project and let us see the final results please,so take plenty of pictures during and after construction.
