On a visit to the offices of Model & Allied publications many years ago I was treated to a tour of the place, the draughting department, the distribution set up and the editorial offices etc but in a large room there was a layout being built for the next model engineer exhibition, this was a 'slot boats' whereby boats whizzed around water filled channels, suddenly somebodys head suddenly appeared from underneath the layout, and Ron Moulton said to me 'let me introduce you to Vic Smeed' I had seen his books, built from his plans but it was great to put a face to this doyen of all ship and boat model builders.
If it was possible to make a miniature working model then Vic Smeed could be guaranteed to come up with the goods, his many fun designs have kept model builders busy now for many years and continue to do so,the slot boats idea was just the sort of thing that he would tackle !
Take a look in your local library and I bet the model section has a book by him.
