    having troubles with glue

hey, i'm having troubles with some of my gluing, i'm not sure if it's just the brand of glue or if i'm just not letting it set long enough i'm using the testors glue in the blue tube. i've been trying a bunch of different techniques such as using rubber bands and weights and such but i'm still having adhesion probles.

Proper polystyrene cement works by disolving the surface of the plastic, which then fuses with the disolved surface of the other part. It is effectively a single material when the solvents have evaporated so there should never be a problem with adhesion.

The only possibilities are that the plastic you are trying to stick is not polystyrene or the glue is not polystyrene cement. You can test the compatability by putting a bit on the end of your finger and touching an inside, non visible, surface of the model. The surface will dissolve and the glue will take on the colour of the plastic.

If you are sure the plastic is polystyrene and the glue is polystyrene cement and it doesn't stick then I would try a different brand of glue as it might have deteriorated with age or be a bad batch for some reason or other.

Some model parts have to be washed as they have a mold release agent on them, this can affect gluing and painting if not carefully washed off with detergent and warm water :wavetowel
