My opinion what its worth is go Acrylics if your Airbrushing, if your brush painting think about Vallijo water colours I havent done a lot of accurate models in the way of painting remember that a lot where given very rough painting in the field with what ever was available I know there are companys selling Accurate colour paints hopefully someone else on here can help

if no one answers they have probably just missed the post so you can try PMng a prolific poster like GEEDUBYA and others

I am airbrushing. Could you recommend any suitable paint manufacturers?

Can you mix enamels and acrylics (not together!) e.g can you spray acrylic over enamel and vice versa, without it all going pear shaped?

I've recently bought some humbrol enamel so would rather get some use out of those before I throw my lot in with acrylic.

Do you get the same colour density with acrylics?, i.e. two coats of enamel is usually enough for full colour, and often one is enough.

Are there any real drawbacks with using acrylic?

I've done an search here and around the web and it seems the only source of ready mixed RLM colours seems to be xtracolor.

Is there anyone else makes it or is it hobsons choice?

My only experiance is with Vallijo Air series and Tamiya both like all paints a few light coats are always better than a heavy coat Enamal has all the problems of clean up and thinners etc and all the fumes

To me the only drawbacks I have with Acrylics are can be arkward to brush and you really have to use same brand thinners

It should be ok to spray over Enamals but always test on a piece of scrap if your unsure

You have been helpful. I hadn't even considered acrylic, it being out of my experience zone!

If I can mix and match acrylic and enamel then I will look to replace my enamels as they run out.

I am already fed up of the airbrush clean up operation involved with enamels!

I've just bought some xtracrylix paints and am going to give them a go I bought them from

Xtracrylix Acrylic Paint at The Model Catalogue

very reasonably priced and very very quick service (next day!)

I'm not connected with the shop, just a happy customer.

If I don't get on with the xtracrylix I'll try the white ensign paints.
