    Decal fix and canopy glue

    Hi Guys

New to forum, just got back into modelling after a few years off.

Just wondering what is new on the market for glueing canopies, you know what i mean if normal poly runs it ruins the model, also would like to know whats best for decal fixing, appreciate your help

    Thanks in advance

    Hello:

Watch makers cement is great! It dries crystal clear and is removed with rubbing alcohol. BUT I've been doing a little mad experimentation and here is what I do. 1. fix the canopy with the watch cement. Then, I use a dab of tamiya extra thin cement (trust me, just buy some now and try it) and let it draw around the surfaces. It works its way around the seems so fast you won't think its on! Don't even think about touching the canopy parts until a full 24 hours. Take care, Jeff

I'd second the above. You could also use Klearfix or any white glue that dries clear.

As for decals, most importantly apply them to a gloss surface. This very much reduces the chances of any air being trapped underneath causing the dreaded silvering. I apply them over a couple of coats of Klear(future in the US-loads of info on model sites about it) using microset. I use microsol to get them to snuggle down into the surface detail. There are other products that do the same thing. Some people apply decals (onto a gloss surface) using Klear as the setting solution. The results are excellent but I'm not sure how long you get to make adjustments, particularly with a large decal!

      Cheers
