what glue for after market canopy?

    Hello

im currently building revells 1/72 fw190 night fighter.the stock canopy is awful, so i bought an aeroclub replacement from hannants.it says the canopy should be glued with cyanoacrylate glue or 5mm epoxy. Not having any of these to hand would pva be any good?

    thanks in advance

Whatever you do dont try to use the CA for the job.

It will only ruin the part. It will go all frosty.

Use the white glue, or clear fix.

      Hi Wingroot,

PVA is primarily meant for wood so I am now sure how it will take to plastic - you can always give it a try - it is water soluble so if it doesn't work it will wipe off with a wet cloth. Personally I would go for modelling cement for this job.

If you do use CA glue and it does go frosty - the trick here is to give it a coat of Johnsons Klear / Future (It sells under both names) - The screen will go clear again with a coat of this stuff. I have spoilt many a clear canopy before discovering this stuff - I only wished I'd heard of it a lot sooner !!

      Regards........Mark

Although the PVA does not actually adhere to the plastic it will hold it sufficiently well enough for a conopy in 1/72nd.

Stay well clear of cyano, it will definately cloud the plastic and if that ends up being on the inside you will not be able to get rid of it. You can actually get fogging with polystyrene cement as well so PVA is a safer alternative.

          Try Krystal Klear

It starts off white but as it dries it becomes clear

Microscale Micro Kristal Klear Scale: 30ml #09 UK

          Or

          Formula 560

Model Shop Leeds - Specialists in radio controlled models

Or you could try white school glue

          Hope the above helps

White school glue is basically PVA which is also the same stuff as Resin W type wood glue.
