    Vought F4u Corsair harness

Can any of the aircraft gurus tell me what kind of harness was fitted to F4u Corsairs that were lend-leased to the FAA during WWII?

I'm not sure whether they would have been fitted with original US pattern harnesses or if the FAA would have specified or retro-fitted the RAF style

    TIA

I think they fitted British harnesses. I can't find a reference for that,it's something I've picked up somewhere,so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along in a bit.

    Cheers

Hi andy from what ive found out , the seats were fitted with british harnesses , but ive read conflicting accounts of which harness - the sutton or the Q type, the ultracast resin seat in this link being the Q type Ultracast , but thats not to say the sutton wasnt used too. Whatever you choose I dont think anyone can say its definitely right or wrong, i'd say just go with what you think , cheers tony

I do know that the Sutton Harness (K type) was in use until the end of the war, maybe even a bit later. That's the one with the large locking pin as opposed to the "parachute" type box on the various Q type harnesses.

I'm really at the end of my very limited knowledge of British harnesses. Can't you ask me one on German harnesses ?

Edgar Brooks will definitely know a lot more.

          Cheers
