    Klear as day

hi just wondering where would be the best place to buy johnsons klear from in the UK as it costs around the £10 mark on the internet (inc. shipping).

also what would be the best way to apply this on smaller scale aircraft (around the 1/48 scale) ive heard alot of good points about this product and i would really like to give it a go. ive recently tried out weathering and methods like that which i like the look of and anything that can improve the look of the future project would be great.

any questions or more detailed info please feel free to ask.

    many thanks.

The original Klear has been discontinued in the UK. It is becoming difficult to find in stores buty you may find it in some supermarkets. I found some in Morrisons in Birmingham about six weeks ago. There is a new version which according to reports on Britmodeller is absolutely no good for models at all. Make sure you get the older version - the clear bottle labelled Klear. Like this.

    Cheers

Sorry, completely forgot your second question! You can brush it on. Use a wide flat brush. A little goes a long way so be careful that it doesn't pool or run. Also check the surface opposite the one you are coating,it has a habit of running around the edge and leaving a blob on the other side! You won't get brush marks,it is a self levelling floor polish after all.

It dries quickly but I leave it overnight to cure before applying washes etc.

Any problem areas can be cleaned using any product containing ammonia - many windowcleaners do.

It is brilliant on clear parts like canopies. Dip them and wick off any excess with a bit of kitchen towel then leave on same to dry. You get a clear and glassy finish.

Finally try and cover your model or componenets whilst drying - it seems to be a dust magnet!

Hope you find some, it really is worth it.

    Cheers

Also live in North Wales and this stuff is just not available...I think Skyman and Mark have bought the remaining stock hehe mind you, if I knew it's worth, so would I ;o)

Have phoned around Asda, Wilkinsons, Home Bargains from Chester to Rhyl and no one has it in stock... oh well.

Will have to purchase online at quad the price. Other than that, what's the alternative?

You may pay over the odds online but it is still good value for money. The bottle in the picture I posted is at least two years old and I spilt some. One bottle lasts a long time. Compare that to the price you'd pay for a proprietary gloss model varnish! A friend of mine claims to have SIXTEEN bottles of Klear stashed. He won't use that if he lives to be a hundred and fifty.

(no matter how many 1/24 VFS P-47s he builds!)

              Cheers

                Hi Gladiator,

I certainly haven't bought any stock out, I still have the same bottle I have had for the last couple of years. However, I am tempted to buy a couple more bottles now if I can find some.

Another place to check is the smaller Hardware / DIY stores as they will more than likely have some in stock at a reasonable price. These smaller stores often get overlooked in favour of big names like B & Q, Homebase etc, so a visit to a smaller shop may just turn up trumps...and I am sure they will appreciate the business too !!

                Regards.....Mark.

                  Thanks guys,

Only kidding with the bulk order I shall be ordering online now as I am at that stage of the paint job now were I need to lock it all in (re: stona's paint advice); though I shall be on the look out whenever I go shopping.

                  Cheers

                  Chris

Ha! Well I went shopping in Asda today and guess what, Klear is sold by the bucket full! So much for customer services telling me that they had none over the phone! Bought two more bottles of the stuff at £2.50 each and will wait on the online delivery next week....
