Adler's Nest Brass 30cal Machine Gun Barrel

    Hi Folks,

Well I'm in need of some further advice... please help...!

Ahem, well if you turn to page 50 of December's Scale Aircraft Modelling mag (the one with the Monster Mossie on the front page), you will see an excellent review of Trumpeter's 1:32 scale Swordfish Stringbag.

Within the article Alan Troi quite rightly has opted out in using the kits machine gun as it's pretty poor in detail. Alan has opted for an Adler's Nest 1:35 brass 30cal Machine Gun Barrel ANM-35004 (International link).

Well, I hunted high and low for a uk website that sells this part to no avail. In doing so I thought I had found an alternative, Master's 1:32 30cal Browning Barrel (Masters Link) thinking this would be the closest match... how wrong I was.

Take a look at the attached pic. Note the machine gun located on the sprue and then compare with the purchased barrel. It's about half the size! Doh! (heh, I can hear you all tut tut at this precise moment) Well, the risks of buying online eh. Not sure where I've gone wrong but your comments are welcome.

The main question is, without purchasing outside of the UK, would anyone know who might sell the Adler's Nest barrel or know of an alternative? The actual barrel length is 22mm as opposed to the Master's 15mm. Your help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Chris

Have you tried Lou Steners site Chris, www.armour-models.co.uk coz I know he does a lot of various barrels-there might be something similar to Adlers Nest. Be quick though, coz he's selling up! Patrick

Well, I've bitten the bullet (or barrel) and have ordered from oversea's, from hlj.com would have preferred to have purchased from a UK seller, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Thanks again Patrick, but I don't think Lou would have had an alternative.

        Cheers

Good luck with it mate, it's often hard to see how the actual length of the barrel will look on the model-I made the same mistake in buying some MG34 barrels which were in fact for the co-ax turret gun, not the bow MG as I thought! Live & learn!

            Thanks Patrick

Yeah, you're right on this point. They don't seem to give dimensions within the details however if you see the multitude of barrels on offer, it would be quite a task. However, they could include a ruler within the picture...

Well I'm gunning (excuse the punn) for the barrel spec from the magazine review so it won't be a shot in the dark (oh god...).

            I gonna shoot off now...

              Oh dear!

              :lame:

You're really scrapin' the bottom of the barrel for those aren't you? That's pretty poor for a man of your calibre - you ought to be fired!

                Well guys,

After Gern shot himself in the foot with the lame gun gags , I just like to tell you that I received the barrel this Christmas Eve afternoon, would you believe! Two weeks to get fired from Japan and a bullseye through my front door! And the barrel is the correct size so well pleased! A great service from Hobbylink Japan (www.hlj.com) and I would def order from them again.
