    Aircraft pics with buckets!

Not to be out done by our armoured brethren I have been keeping my eyes open for aircraft pictures featuring buckets. After much trawling of references (not really) I came up with two images which fit the bill. You wouldn't want to be smoking around these guys!

    First,refuelling a Bf109...with bucket:

(From "German Fighters over England" Bryan Philpott)

Second, refuelling an Fw190,it's obvious why the bucket is there:

(From "Fighters defending the Reich" same author)

    Enjoy

Don't worry,I've yet to find anything actually flying with a bucket! Doesn't mean I'm not looking though!

Many fighter aircraft,as their range and mission length increased, were fitted with the tactfully named "relief tube" so a chamber pot was not really necessary though you might need one with a couple of 109s on your tail. You'd only want to use the tube once as iceing was a problem and you could end up wearing what you were hoping to evacuate!

      Cheers

As this one is descending to the gutter (!) doesn't the chap by the 109 look like he's having a crafty one into the bucket? )

steve, when i did my 1/32 revell beaufighter , i scratchbuilt the whole interior front to back and it was complete with two pee tubes with bags,a bit like a funnel attached to a hoover bag,( which i made from heat stretched cotton bud stems) .As i was saying to ron in another post, the pics were all lost when the old laptop went haywire!, ill see if i cant manage to get some real close ups through the canopy. I was gutted when i lost them cause the interior will never be seen now, only i know whats inside! As for the bucket on a plane , we'll have to see! watch this space, cheers tony

            buckets,chamber pots,pee tubes

Here we go , not brilliant focus but you can make out the pee tube and bag in the cockpit and observers position.I wonder who got the job of emptying them on return from a long sortie?!!just for an idea of scale heres also a picture of the big brutal looking beast ( and hes holding a plane ,too!!!!!) cheers tony

Nice one Tony, I really don't know but I expect that the aircrew emptied them themselves.
