    Cleaning decal adhesive

    Hi guys,

Someone here will know this one. How do I clean the marks left by decal adhesive/setting solution? Hopefully, there should be a picture (rather poor 'cos I'm still trying to get to grips with my new camera) attached.

    Hiya Gern,

I can't see from the piccy exactly what is going on. The decal adhesive is obviously water soluble and is easily removed with warm water and a soft cloth or cotton bud. I give my models a wash down as a matter of course once the decals are treated and dry. Sometimes decal setting agents like microsol cause a sort of white bloom in a coat of Klear. This usually fades as everything dries out and is cured by the next coat of Klear that you apply to seal in the decals.

If you've got some silvering of the carrier film there are still things you can do to ameliorate the problem. Let us know what you reckon has happened and hopefully you can get it sorted.

    Cheers

    Steve

      Hi Steve,

Thanks for trying to help - despite the less than informative details I gave you!

I sprayed the plane with a Revell matt acrylic and put the decals straight on top of that using Revells decalfix. (This was before I heard about using gloss finishes to eliminate silvering). You can just see that the Decalfix has left nasty stains on the paint around the decal. It's those that I want to clean up. I'll try what you suggested and see how it goes. I'll also be playing around with my camera over the next few days so I'll see if I can get some better pics.
